The station sits at the crossroads of the Outer Ring Road (IT corridor), BTM Layout (dense residential) and HSR Layout (mix of residential and commercial). It is the southern anchor for IT commuters on the Yellow Line.
The junction gets its name from the Central Silk Board of India, a statutory body established in 1948 for the development of the silk industry, which had its office at this location. For decades the area was a quiet government office zone. As Bengaluru's IT corridor developed along the Outer Ring Road and Hosur Road in the early 2000s, Silk Board junction became one of the city's most congested intersections — infamous for 45-minute waits at a single traffic signal. The opening of the Yellow Line metro in August 2025 finally gave commuters a way to bypass the gridlock.
