Interchanges & Connections
- Majestic — Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Station (Green Line) — The busiest metro station in Bengaluru and currently the only operational interchange on the Purple Line. Transfer to the Green Line for north Bengaluru (Yeshwanthpur, Nagasandra, Madavara) or south (Jayanagar, RV Road, Silk Institute). Platform-to-platform transfer takes approximately 5 minutes.
- KSR Railway Station — Direct metro access to Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna (KSR) Railway Station, Bengaluru's main railway terminus. Exit the metro and walk 1 minute to the railway station entrance.
- Via Green Line → Yellow Line — For Electronic City and Bommasandra, transfer at Majestic to the Green Line, then at RV Road (Rashtreeya Vidyalaya Road) to the Yellow Line.
Upcoming interchanges (under construction)
As Phase 2 lines open, the Purple Line will gain two more interchanges — both stations already operate as Purple Line stops today:
- MG Road — Pink Line — The Pink Line (Kalena Agrahara ↔ Nagawara) will meet the Purple Line at MG Road, with an underground concourse linking to the elevated Purple Line platform. The Pink Line's elevated section (Kalena Agrahara–Tavarekere) is reported ready, with BMRCL targeting a late-September 2026 inauguration, but the underground section that carries MG Road has been revised to January 2027 — once it opens it will connect the Purple Line to Jayadeva, Dairy Circle, and the Nagawara / Kalena Agrahara corridors.
- Krishnaraja Puram (KR Puram) — Blue Line — The Blue Line (ORR & Airport corridor) will interchange with the Purple Line at KR Puram, giving Purple Line riders a direct route along the Outer Ring Road tech belt (Marathahalli, Bellandur, Silk Board) and onward to Kempegowda International Airport. KR Puram is the northern terminus of the Blue Line's Phase 2A (KR Puram–Central Silk Board along the ORR), where trial runs are set to begin in October 2026 ahead of commercial service in 2027; the onward airport section (Phase 2B) follows later.

From South India's first metro to a 43-km cross-city spine
The Purple Line is where Namma Metro began. Its first stretch — Reach 1, the 6.7 km Baiyappanahalli → MG Road elevated section — opened on 20 October 2011, making it the first metro line to run in South India. The network grew outward from that spine over the next twelve years: the western elevated arm to Mysuru Road opened in November 2015, and on 29 April 2016 the 4.8 km Cubbon Park → City Railway Station tunnel section became Bengaluru's first underground metro, running beneath the dense city centre through Cubbon Park, Vidhana Soudha and Majestic. The 7.5 km Mysuru Road → Kengeri extension followed in August 2021.
The line reached its full shape on a single landmark day — 9 October 2023 — when both ends opened together: the eastern extension out to Whitefield and the short western extension from Kengeri to Challaghatta, virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
