Why the Purple Line Matters
The Purple Line is the backbone of Bengaluru's metro network:
- Highest ridership — With nearly 4 lakh daily trips, the Purple Line carries more passengers than any other Namma Metro line. It connects Whitefield's IT workforce to the city centre in under 70 minutes, replacing a car journey that can take 2+ hours in traffic.
- IT corridor connectivity — The eastern extension to Whitefield brought metro connectivity to one of India's largest IT corridors, serving hundreds of thousands of tech workers in ITPL, Brookefield, and the Mahadevapura area.
- Central network interchange — At Majestic (Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Station), the Purple Line meets the Green Line, creating the city's primary metro interchange. From here, passengers can reach any corner of the operational network.
- Railway connectivity — KSR Railway Station on the Purple Line gives direct metro-to-rail transfers, connecting long-distance train passengers to the metro network.
- Cultural & civic heart — Stations at MG Road, Cubbon Park, Dr. BR Ambedkar (Vidhana Soudha), and Majestic serve the commercial, recreational, and administrative core of Bengaluru.
