Mahalakshmi Metro Station (MHL) on the Green Line serves the affluent residential neighbourhood of Mahalakshmi Layout in West Bangalore. Located on Chord Road, the station provides convenient access to the MKK Road shopping district, Shankar Nag Bus Stand, and the local Mahalakshmi Temple. Mahalakshmi Layout was developed by the City Improvement Trust Board (CITB, predecessor of the BDA) in the 1960s-70s as a planned residential extension of West Bangalore. Local tradition holds that a roughly 5 sq km portion was named Mahalakshmipura around 1961 by Manek Mudaliar, after his wife, on land received as a gift from the Maharaja of Mysore.

The Green Line's 2014 arrival gave the Layout a direct rail link to Majestic and the rest of the network without disturbing its residential character — most visible change since has been steady growth of shops and eateries along MKK Road rather than large-scale redevelopment.
